Blind Brook Board of Education Candidate Bios

 

Danny Fung

Danny Fung is running for a seat on the Blind Brook Board of Education. He and his wife, Kaity, have lived in Rye Brook for nearly six years with their two children, Lucas and Isabella, and dog, Cody. Professionally, he works in financial services, advising privately held and publicly traded companies and municipalities on managing investment risks, including interest rates, FX, and energy commodities.

Danny is a graduate of Binghamton University with a BSc in Economics. He has served as a guest lecturer at New York University and Columbia University. He was a mentor in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City program and continues to mentor Binghamton University undergraduates seeking a career in financial services.

 

Katherine Hallissy Ayala

Katherine Hallissy Ayala is seeking election to the Blind Brook Board of Education. An experienced educator and active community volunteer, Katherine is passionate about education.  For nearly 10 years, Katherine has been involved with various local organizations. She contributed to the development of the PTA’s Creating Connections curriculum in 2014, and in 2019 she co-founded the PTA’s Supporting Every Individual Difference Committee (SEID), which provides a bridge to resources, education, networking, and advocacy to support parents navigating the complex process of special education. Since 2016, Katherine has held various leadership roles within the Rye Brook Cub Scouts, engaging scouts with their community and the natural world. Katherine served two terms on the Blind Brook PTA Executive Board, and she currently serves on the Board of Education’s Technology Planning Committee and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee Committee.

Before Katherine moved to Rye Brook in 2008, Katherine worked at a K-12 independent school, where she taught computer classes and collaborated with colleagues on curriculum development involving technology. Katherine holds a BA in Computer Science and in Spanish from Wellesley College, as well as an MA in Computer Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.  Katherine and her husband Hugo have two sons in Blind Brook schools, in grades 5 and 9.
