As a parent, I’m deeply invested in the future, not in the abstract, but for the very real humans I’m raising. And I often find myself asking hard questions: how do I advocate fiercely for my children's futures while still being present in their childhood? How do I teach them about injustice without convincing them that the world is unsafe? How do I talk to them about activism without passing down the anxiety I feel every day? 

A group of individual voters, the League of Women Voters of Louisiana, and the League of Women Voters of Louisiana Education Fund today filed an emergency lawsuit in federal court seeking to block Secretary of State Nancy Landry’s implementation of Governor Jeff Landry’s unlawful executive order that attempts to suspend Louisiana’s congressional House primary elections after voting had already begun.

Celina Stewart, a nationally recognized voting rights attorney and champion of American democracy, has been named by Northeastern Law’s Judith Olans Brown Forum for Women in the Law (WIL) as its Practitioner-in-Residence for 2026–2027.
