Meeting Summary:

The Regular Meeting of the Streetsboro Board of Education was called to order on October 13, 2025 at 5:45 PM.

PUBLIC COMMENTS: There were no public comments.

The Minutes from the 09/11/2025 Regular Meeting were approved.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT: Athletic Director Randy Tevepaugh presented student athletes who excelled during the fall season. Students were brought to the stage for recognition. Portage Student Achievement Awards were given to students who have done community service. Streetsboro won two Portage Student Achievement Awards. The boys' golf team won back-to-back MAC championships. The girls' soccer coach is a seven-time Coach of the Year in the MAC, having won seven titles in nine years. The team went 10-0 this year. The Coach has 150 wins. The Seniors are leaving with three titles in four years. The Cleveland Browns are sponsoring a girls' flag football team. The Browns will cover all expenses, except for transportation. The team is limited to 25, but more than 40 girls have shown interest in participating. Due to the high level of interest, Juniors and Seniors will be given priority. The flag football games will be played on Sundays. Scheduling for the games will be done in January.

Mr Patrick Griffis presented on the new student advisory committee at the High School. Tenth through twelfth-grade students are given a voice on how to bring positive change to the High School. The idea is to create a welcoming place. The committee has brought about some small but meaningful changes, such as adding a microwave to the cafeteria and hosting a new student welcome breakfast.

Results from the district’s report card were presented. The overall ranking was 4 stars, down from the previous year's 4.5-star rating. A problem area is Early Literacy, where the district had a 2-star ranking. The positives are that Henry Defer is a five-star school and has seen an increase in achievement. The Middle School moved up a half star. The district ranks 10th in the State of Ohio as having the most improved Performance Index. Overall, the students are moving in the right direction. Continued growth was seen in every building. Although Early Literacy dropped to 2 stars from the previous year’s three stars, part of that was due to a change in reading diagnostics that gave the school a boost last year. Early Literacy in Ohio has fallen by 3.5% and is a state-wide problem. A thorough review of the data will be conducted, and areas for improvement will be identified to support the district as it strives to achieve its ultimate goal of a five-star rating.

TREASURER’S REPORT: A levy will be on the ballot in November. A levy fact sheet has been created and uploaded to the district website. The fact sheet includes areas for cuts if the levy does not pass. Approximately 71% of school funding comes from property taxes. Streetsboro residents are currently paying a lower school component in their property taxes than other localities in the area. If the levy is not funded, at a minimum, $1 million must be cut from salaries, participation fees will increase, classes will be eliminated, and some transportation services will be reduced or eliminated. Treasurer Brian Haines presented on state legislation that is adverse to public school funding.

CHIEF BUSINESS OFFICER REPORT: The district is doing well with rental agreements. The school has been successful in generating revenue through the Community Concert series. Acts are currently being vetted. On the schedule is a family-friendly comedian, Dan Brown, for January 10. The Eric Clapton experience is scheduled for January 24. The Fleetwood Mac cover band is coming back. The PTA is sponsoring “Magic Gives Back”. An ELO tribute is planned for April 18. The district is currently in negotiations to bring in a national act. While rental agreements do not come close to covering estimated school funding deficits, it does help and will cover a few of the expenses.
The district is collaborating with the City on a wayfinding sign

BOARD REPORTS: The Education Foundation is broadening the scope of its scholarships to become more inclusive. Students are encouraged to apply because the Foundation wants to distribute funds.

CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS B to J were approved.
