Streetsboro Board of Education Regular Meeting

Date of Meeting: 01/13/2026

Format: In-person

Meeting Summary:

The Regular Meeting of the Streetsboro Board of Education was called to order on January 13, 2026, at 6:01 PM.

PUBLIC COMMENTS: A parent with two children in the district expressed concerns regarding recent budget cuts, particularly the elimination of cheerleading, which has prevented his daughter from participating in an activity she enjoys. He requested that the Board explore ways to preserve extracurricular opportunities while remaining within budget constraints. He also asked for greater transparency regarding budget decisions, staffing efficiency, and staffing levels relative to student population. He stated that the district cannot continue to rely solely on taxpayers and encouraged exploration of alternative funding methods such as fundraising, staffing efficiency reviews, and potential facility closures. Board President Tracy Campbell requested his contact information and stated she would follow up to address his questions.

The minutes from the 12/11/2025 Regular Meeting were approved.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT: A presentation highlighted student and community participation in a Christmas assistance event that supported 99 families and benefited over 400 children. Donations were provided through community contributions, staff and student donations, Teacher Denim Days, and 50/50 raffles at basketball games. Contributions included nearly 1,200 pairs of socks, stuffed animals collected by NHS students, clothing and toys from the Middle School Giving Tree, canned food donations, and gift cards for teenagers. Support was provided by the Streetsboro community and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.

Approval is pending for the College and Career Plus (CCP) Program through the State of Ohio. SPARCC, the district’s IT support provider, requested approval to move to a Governance Council structure, which will not impact services. Questions regarding the use of Music Booster funds were addressed, with emphasis on legal and ethical limitations, including restrictions related to staff compensation, equitable treatment, Title IX considerations, and potential legal challenges.

The Girls Soccer Team requested approval for an overnight trip to Ashland, which will not incur district costs, as parents will provide transportation.

The 2027–2028 school calendar was presented for approval. Notable changes include the addition of a fall break in October around NEOA days, a full week off for Thanksgiving, a slightly later end to the school year in June, and equal-length grading periods.

The district is preparing for upcoming negotiations with the teachers’ union. In recognition of Board Appreciation Month, certificates of appreciation were presented to Board members.

TREASURER’S REPORT: A 7-mill levy will be on the November ballot. The Treasurer explained that funding losses occurred following the failure of a previous 5-mill levy, necessitating the higher levy request. One mill equates to approximately $35 per $100,000 in property value, making the total levy cost about $245 annually per $100,000. Passage of the levy was described as critical to the district’s financial stability.

CHIEF BUSINESS OFFICER REPORT: The district secured an additional safety grant totaling $8,500. The Food Service Plan was presented for Board approval.

BOARD REPORTS: The Education Foundation is meeting to review grant applications and scholarship opportunities. A legislative update emphasized the importance of monitoring state-level decisions related to school funding and property tax policy as the General Assembly returns to session.
