Format: In-person
Meeting Summary:
The Regular Meeting of the Streetsboro Board of Education was called to order on February 12, 2026, at 5:45 PM.
PUBLIC COMMENTS: There were no public comments.
The minutes from the 01/13/2026 Organizational and Regular Meetings and the 02/03/2026 meeting were approved.
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT: Brett McCann presented a detailed overview of the District Report Card. The district earned an overall four-star rating, with a five-star rating in Gap Closure. Henry Defer Intermediate School received a five-star rating. Math scores show upward trends, and a 6.2-point increase in the Performance Index over two years ranks Streetsboro 10th in Ohio for improvement.
The Progress component earned a five-star rating for the fourth consecutive year. This metric measures expected performance versus actual performance over a three-year period. Value-added analysis compares Streetsboro students’ test performance to that of students statewide and assesses the impact of teachers, schools, and the district on student learning. Every eligible building in the district earned a five-star rating in Value Added. Only two districts in Ohio—Orange and Streetsboro—achieved this distinction.
Superintendent Deevers highlighted progress under the district’s newly implemented strategic plan, which emphasizes student voice and student-led innovation. A peer tutoring program, developed by the Principal Student Advisory Committee, has been launched to strengthen peer support and student ownership of learning. Eighteen student tutors are serving 41 students seeking academic assistance. Tutors volunteer before school and work collaboratively with teachers to support classroom instruction. Three peer tutors presented on their experiences with the program.
Graduation planning is underway, with the outdoor ceremony scheduled for May 19 and May 20 as the rain date. The rain location will depend on weather conditions and may be held in the stadium or inside the high school auditorium, where seating capacity is more limited.
TREASURER’S REPORT: The district is filing a court complaint regarding property tax valuations, as several properties recently sold at significantly higher prices than their appraised values. The district is seeking to have taxes adjusted to reflect sale prices. If successful, this could generate an additional $243,000 in revenue. Forecasts indicate a negative cash balance in 2028–2029 if the November levy does not pass.
CHIEF BUSINESS OFFICER REPORT: The state mandates annual door inspections. Previously, inspections were conducted by a company charging $24–$25 per exterior door and $5 per classroom door. This year, the Streetsboro Fire Department will conduct inspections at no cost to the district using a state-compliant form reviewed by legal counsel.
Food Service hosted a popular “Sushi Day.” A new agreement with CINTAS requires Board approval. A rental agreement with Ohio Quest Wrestling was presented, with charges limited to janitorial services. The event will serve as a fundraiser for the school’s wrestling team, which will receive a portion of the proceeds.
BOARD REPORTS: Maplewood has set tuition rates for the 2027 school year. The PTA will elect new officers in March and is organizing a “Magic Gives Back” fundraiser. The Education Foundation is reviewing scholarship applications for seniors.
