Summary:

The meeting hosted by Stanton Middle School, began promptly at 6:00 PM with roll call and recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. Assistant Superintendent Justin Gates introduced the superintendent, administrators and staff. Minutes from the previous meeting were voted on and approved.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Stanton eighth-grade students Logan Schoenberger, AJ Mack, and Jermaine Richmond presented to the board on a mentorship program between eighth and sixth graders.

Stanton student Gigi Lewis performed her original piece, a motivational song and dance.

Swim coach Corey Spicer introduced this year’s seven state qualifiers

Wrestling coaches Chris Dunfee and Ryan Fankhouser introduced the two state qualifiers.

Superintendent Tom Larkin recognized several individuals:

  • Walls kindergarten teacher Sierra Kale, who was nominated for the National Lifechanger of the Year award.
  • Roosevelt Marketing Teacher Brent Pfeiffer, who recently received the Ohio DECA Honorary Life Member award.
  • Lesley Sickle and Heather Malarcik from Main Street Kent for their efforts on the March of Art exhibition, which showcased Kent student artwork for Kent businesses.

Director of Business Services Jim Soyers presented HVAC updates from throughout the district.

Superintendent Tom Larkin reviewed details from last month's TIRC meeting regarding tax-free businesses.

Superintendent Tom Larkin reviewed board policy and regulations regarding Hall of Fame nominations.

GENERAL BUSINESS
One visitor approached the Board regarding House Bill 42 and the need to oppose it.
Approved financial reports and bills.
Considered the review of middle school science instructional materials at the April meeting.
Consider the OSBA policy update for review and approval at the April meeting.
The Board moved the discussion regarding a potential resolution opposing House Bill 42 to the April meeting.

Approved resolution to accept 2025 tax year rates.
Approved resolution approving filing of compliant against the valuation of real property.
Approved Ohio School Council agreement for electricity.
Approved quote for e-rate
Approved adoption of OSBA policy update.
Approved three overnight/out of state field trips: Health Careers and 2 Expedition Academy field trips.
Approved 4 financial donations totaling $7,011.00

PERSONNEL
Approved two retirements:

  • Gayle Horning, Davey Elementary Tutor (effective July 1, 2026)
  • Mary Rozum, Holden Elementary Tutor (effective July 1,2026).
