The Albemarle County Registrar’s Office has identified an issue affecting some mail-in ballots sent to county voters for the November 3, 2026 election.
Some ballot packets mailed by the Registrar’s Office were sent with return envelopes that did not include the required prepaid postage.
According to the Albemarle County Registrar, approximately 700–800 of the 6,800 ballot packets initially mailed on September 18 may have been affected. The Registrar’s Office has mailed affected voters a letter explaining the issue along with a replacement return envelope containing the proper postage.
NO REPLACEMENT BALLOT IS NECESSARY
What should Albemarle voters do?
Check your return envelope. If it has the appropriate prepaid postage, you may return your ballot by mail according to the instructions provided.
If your original return envelope did not have prepaid postage, watch your mail for the corrected return envelope sent by the Albemarle County Registrar’s Office.
If you already mailed your ballot using an envelope without prepaid postage, the Registrar has reported that the U.S. Postal Service has been delivering those ballots to the Registrar’s Office. Voters can also check the status of their ballot using Virginia’s ballot tracking system.
