February 25, 2026; The League of Women Voters of Oklahoma issues the following statement in response to the Department of Justice’s request for Oklahoma voter data:
“The Department of Justice’s repeated requests for the Oklahoma State Election Board to turn over voter data is a clear encroachment beyond the federal government’s authority over elections. The DOJ's continued requests for this data reflect the government’s lack of respect for voter rights.
“The League of Women Voters of Oklahoma applauds Secretary Paul Ziriax for his response that a request for private data such as driver’s license numbers and Social Security numbers, 'is explicitly required to be confidential.' Secretary Ziriax went further and said that '... those entrusted to ensure safe, secure, and fair elections... are obligated to follow the laws as they are written.'
“The government’s claim that the information is needed to confirm states are maintaining accurate voter rolls is unprecedented and unconstitutional. That is the job of the individual states.
“Oklahoma voters trust their state’s election system. It is one of the most reliable, accurate, secure, efficient, and cost-effective voting systems in the world. Without that trust, democracy dies.”
