Streetsboro Board of Education Regular Meeting

Date of Meeting: 03/12/2026

Format: In-person

Meeting Summary:

The Regular Meeting of the Streetsboro Board of Education was called to order on March 12, 2026, at 5:45 PM.

PUBLIC COMMENTS: There were no public comments.

The minutes from the 02/12/2026 Regular Meeting and the 03/02/2026 Special Meeting were approved.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT: The district is contracting with a private provider, Right at School, for after-school care services. The company has a positive track record, is used by several local districts, and aligns with district objectives. There is no cost to the district, as parents contract directly with the provider. The district will receive 5% of program revenues. A representative presented details of the program, which includes a rotating curriculum focused on learning, recreation, and physical activity. Families can choose flexible schedules ranging from one day per week to full-week coverage. The program also includes inclusion support services and offers care before school, after school, and on scheduled days off.

The district, in partnership with the City of Streetsboro, is adopting the Neighborhood Bridges program, similar to a program used by Kent City Schools. This initiative connects community members with students and families in need through a weekly digital newsletter that identifies specific needs, such as clothing, food, and hygiene items. Community members can donate items, which are distributed through designated locations and coordinated by liaisons. The program may also expand to include summer needs in partnership with Parks and Recreation. A launch date is expected soon.

Staff reductions were announced, including five teaching positions and five classified positions, primarily managed through retirements and administrative reductions. Additional extracurricular cancellations may occur depending on the outcome of the May 2026 levy. Programs may be reinstated if the levy passes.

TREASURER’S REPORT: The February General Fund report showed revenues of $4,737,066 and expenses of $2,306,415. A deficit is projected in future years, with the district currently in Precaution status and anticipating a negative cash balance by FY28. Proposed staffing and extracurricular cuts would be restored if the levy passes. Pending state legislation may further impact funding: HB421 would allow voters to reduce property tax millage, and HB422 would increase the approval threshold for certain property tax levies.

CHIEF BUSINESS OFFICER REPORT: A memorandum of understanding (MOU) is being developed between the City of Streetsboro and 88.9 WSTB to incorporate the school radio station into the city’s Emergency Operations Plan. Radio staff will participate in joint crisis training, and the station will provide timely communication to families during emergencies. If approved by the Board, the MOU will proceed to City Council.

A rental agreement with Lisa’s School of Dance was presented for approval. Construction at Towne Square is scheduled to begin on March 23 and is expected to impact traffic; the district is evaluating how to manage transportation disruptions.

BOARD REPORTS: Updates were provided on the success of athletic teams. The Education Foundation continues to review scholarship applications.
