Meeting Summary:
PUBLIC COMMENT
John Avouris, a township resident running for a position on the Kent Board of Education, introduced himself and explained why he is seeking the role. He mentioned the need for better relations and communication between the board and residents of Kent and Franklin. He also emphasized the importance of improved safety within the school and the value of volunteerism for after-school programming. The trustees thanked him for his presentation.
A Brady Lake area resident thanked the trustees and road superintendent for the excellent job of paving on Lakeview Drive.
A resident of West Shore Drive inquired about drainage issues near her home. Mr. Akerley noted that addressing the problem is on his radar.
ROAD, ZONING AND FIRE REPORTS
Mr. Akerley addressed the issue of the paving of Lakeview Drive and Park Avenue, which cost $150,000. He also reminded residents that the speed limit is still 25mph.
Brush chipping is finished for the season.
Hodgman guardrail repair will occur when the equipment becomes available.
He reminded residents not to brush leaves into the roadway.
Leaf pickup details can be found on the township website.
Today is the final day for chip and seal road repair.
Mr. Ciccozzi described a variance request for keeping chickens. The zoning board has discussed the issue of cannabis dispensaries or growing facilities in the township. So far, the decision is to allow one facility within the township.
Mr. Smith reported that a gas leak had occurred at Meadowview Plaza, affecting several units. It was necessary to force open four doors because the required keys had not been provided.
The township is still waiting for the equipment to make it possible for the new siren to be operational.
An inspection was conducted of all township bars, with only one violating the occupancy rules.
The trustees approved spending up to $400 on AED pads and batteries through a unanimous vote.
NEW BUSINESS
The planning and design for the St. Rt. 59/Horning Road project is proceeding. The township's share of the cost will be 16.7% of the $8 million project; we are investigating other sources of funding. The project is scheduled to begin in 2027 and is expected to result in increased safety for both cars and pedestrians in the area.
All three trustees approved two additional resolutions. The fall newsletter was approved, and the second meetings of both November and December will be cancelled because of the holidays.
