Kent City Council regular meeting

Meeting Summary:
Council had a light agenda. Members heard comments from Mary Starbuck on behalf of the Kent Environmental Council regarding concerns about the LaPoin Farm excavation. Bridget Susel later said the owner is operating within ODNR permit rights and has promised to address the piles of silt that have accumulated. Susel said the silt is not draining into the creek.
Council also heard from Mr. Bliss, who raised concerns about train whistle noise. City Manager Dave Ruller said City Engineer Jim Bowling has been negotiating with the railroad involved.
In other business, Council approved the appointments of Adam Stephens to the Planning Commission and Mariah Taylor to the Civil Service Commission. Other appointments are still pending.
Council Member and President Pro Tem Jeff Clapper proposed a moratorium on data centers. Council Member Chris Hook asked whether it could affect small data centers. Other members said they wanted to review a timeline. The matter was referred to the city’s counsel.
