Streetsboro Board of Education Regular Meeting

Meeting Summary:

The Regular Meeting of the Streetsboro Board of Education was called to order on August 25, 2025, at 5:45 PM.

PUBLIC COMMENTS: There were no public comments.

The Minutes from the 07/10/2025 Regular Meeting were approved.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT: The new cell phone policy mandated in the State budget bill went into effect at the beginning of the school year. Students are no longer allowed to have cell phones out during any part of the school day. Middle School and High School students are allowed to keep phones on their person during non-instructional times and are required to place them in phone holders during instructional time.

Twenty-two certified and classified staff have been hired. The district will save $1.5 million on salaries this year as a result of restructuring efforts. Quality additions were made to the staff. School opened with a soft launch. Everyone will return by Thursday, August 28.

US News & World Report ranks Streetsboro Schools second in the County. The district moved up to 9th place in the Akron area. It shows that the district is moving in the right direction.

TREASURER’S REPORT: It is projected that the district will incur a deficit of $1 million. A resolution is put forward for Board approval for the Board's participation in the Vouchers Hurt Ohio Coalition. The district is seeing an increase in the use of Vouchers. They are hurting public schools.

Recent administrative pay increases were given. They were needed for consistency among the administrative staff.

A request was made to the board to change from the current fiscal software to Frontline Financial Planning Analytics. The new software will provide more information.

To clarify, money for the vouchers goes to Private Schools. Vouchers negatively affect public schools.

There will be an update to the five-year forecast next month.

CHIEF BUSINESS OFFICER REPORT: The district did not go with the contract with CEP for food service. There will be no decision on the food service contract until more information is available. The rollout of free breakfasts at the elementary schools went very well, but the process needs to change because the lines were too long. We are currently investigating better ways to manage breakfast.

The Chromebook rollout went well.

Traffic Pattern Update: Henry Defer converted one lane into a designated bus lane. It is working well. All other traffic is moving as it has in the past.

And ELO tribute band wants to be a part of the Community Series. The plan is to allow them to rent the facility to gauge the level of their draw before deciding whether to include them in the series.

The PTA President was sent an agreement to allow the PTA to have office space for storage at the Annex.

Rental Agreement rates for the year are presented for board approval. The rates are the same as last year. There are add-on packages available for the rental agreements, including video, marketing, and communications services.

BOARD REPORTS: The won-loss records of the Fall sports teams were given. The Educational Foundation is accepting applications for Scholarship money. Ohio legislators will be returning, and public schools are awaiting a decision on the attempt to rescind the governor’s budget bill vetoes. Streetsboro students at Maplewood are doing very well. Sixty Streetsboro students had achievements at Maplewood.

CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS B to Z were approved.
