Additional discussion topics include strategies for successfully pitching and crafting an op-ed or editorial. The Growing Democracy Project, housed at Kent State University and officially launched in 2019, offers a unique approach to civic and political engagement. It aims to bridge the boundaries between academia and the community and break down barriers between community residents and governing institutions. The nonpartisan group's ultimate goal is to create a space for critical discussions and meaningful learning that takes place in the community rather than in the classroom. Upcoming Growing Democracy teach-in/workshops are scheduled for November 20 ("Democracy at the Grassgroots: Beyond the General Election" with Eirka Brown and Tony Vento) and December 18 ("Organizers Organizing Organizations" with Phillis Harris). Details coming soon.
