(From LWVO's Weekly Update dated 03/07/26.)
This week, we learned Ohio Secretary of State LaRose handed over a copy of Ohio’s voter registration database to the Department of Justice on February 13. The data contains the names, addresses, dates of birth, and last four digits of voters' Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers of all Ohio voters.
In his letter to the DOJ, LaRose acknowledges that voter registration lists are static snapshots, and no such snapshot will ever be wholly accurate as these lists are always a work in progress.
And he’s right! Giving another government body this authority over Ohioans increases the likelihood that many more eligible voters will be unlawfully removed from the voter rolls. Among other things, this means that all of us need to be checking our voter registration regularly, and the registrations of our friends and family (you can do so here). Tell people in your life they should do the same.
