League of Women Voters of Coos County
presented an informational forum on July 13th:
Thinking about Running for Mayor or City Council?
• What qualifications and experience do I need?
• How much of my time does it require?
• How do I file for office?
The forum provided interested citizens with information for what these jobs are like and how to go about becoming a candidate. Panelists included city managers, current city council members not running for election this year, and former mayors.

Time to file for candidacy in the November election has past, but should you wish to file for an office in the future:
Be aware of Deadlines! The Oregon state has a deadline for filing your candidacy, but you should also be aware that most local cities want you to file earlier than the state so they have time to check petition signatures.
Candidate final filing date for Coos County positions in the November election was
August 30 - but you can still find helpful information about future filing at this link.
Here you will find forms to fill out and other important information.
