May 2020 LWVOR President's Column - 2020 Annual Meeting

The April meeting of the LWVOR Board was kindly hosted by Joye Montgomery and held online via Zoom. All group activities have been suspended, and this includes plans for the Annual Meeting in May. I will miss the social time that the Annual Meeting provided in the past, but the danger of the Coronavirus has put an end to such gatherings for the foreseeable future. In the Bylaws, Article VII Meetings Sec. 2 states that the “Board of Directors may call membership meetings at any time.”

In order to remain safe, the Board decided to call the Annual Meeting in a virtual manner and to ask the membership to vote via email on the business of the Annual Meeting. All members for whom there is an email address will receive an email on the business of the Annual Meeting. If there is no email address, then the member will receive this information via US mail. At the Annual Meeting the membership shall:

  1. Adopt the local Program and positions for the ensuing year,
  2. Elect officers and directors and the Chair and two (2) members of the Nominating Committee,
  3. Adopt a budget, and
  4. Transact such other business as may properly come before them.

I ask that you consider the business of the Annual Meeting and reply in the manner in which you received the business. Please email or call me if you have any questions about the business of the meeting. With the approval of the members, the LWVOR can continue to function for 2020-2021.

Elsewhere in this online Voter is a letter from the LWVTN President, Marian Ott. I encourage you to take note of the information about Absentee Voting in Tennessee. Anyone over the age of 60 can vote absentee—need I say more about the membership of the LWVOR....

Thank you for being flexible during these times.

~Harriett McCurdy, President LWVOR
