1st Lieutenant Sharon Ann Lane – (1943-1969) Of the 8 nurses who died while serving in Viet Nam, 1Lt. Emily Jazmin Perez (1983-2006) was a Cadet Command Sergeant Major at the US Military Academy at West Point, making her the highest ranking African American female cadet in the history of West Point. Following graduation, she was assigned to the 204th Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division of the United States Army.
