1st Lieutenant Sharon Ann Lane – (1943-1969) Of the 8 nurses who died while serving in Viet Nam, 1Lt. Lane was the only one killed as the result of direct hostile fire.  For her service in 1LT Lane was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star with “V” device, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Order of Vietnam Medal, and the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross (with Palm). https://armyhistory.org/first-lieutenant-sharon-ann-lane/

Emily Jazmin Perez (1983-2006) was a Cadet Command Sergeant Major at the US Military Academy at West Point, making her the highest ranking African American female cadet in the history of West Point. Following graduation, she was assigned to the 204th Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division of the United States Army.
