In anticipation of a summer of protest activities, please remember that the policy of LWV is to encourage member participation in rallies, events, etc, that address public policy issues, such as pending cuts to SNAP and Medicaid, that are clearly within the non-partisan LWV positions and the Unite & Rise agenda.   Events such as No More Kings Day are clearly too partisan, and LWV is not officially participating.

 

However, league members should certainly feel free to express their First Amendment rights to attend whatever events they choose, with the caution that they should not be representing LWV.   

 

I am sure you already knew all this, but wanted you to feel comfortable in case you had pushback from individual members.

 

Also, LWVUS is drafting a broad statement on their website for this weekend in case there is violence/intimidation by authorities against the right to peacefully protest.  Hopefully, this will be irrelevant in your communities, but I wanted you to know this resource will be available in case you need to adapt it to meet local events in your community.
