The Irving League of Women Voters supports funding for programs to reduce the incidence of Domestic Violence and to alleviate its effects.

Results
  • 1991 City of Irving purchased a facility to house a shelter in 1992. New Tomorrows contracted with the city to provide services from the city-owned building. In March 1992, New Tomorrows opened its doors to serve women and their children who suffer from domestic violence.

Retain

State funding should be available for seed money, capital funds, and operation costs for the following:

  1. Local and regional residential center for victims.
  2. Non-residential support services.
  3. Counseling programs for offenders and all other members of the affected household.
  4. Mandatory in-service training for police officers who deal with domestic violence.
  5. Expanded training in police academics to deal with domestic violence.
  6. Special training for prosecutors, judges, probation officers, and others in the criminal justice system who deal with domestic violence.
  7. Public information about domestic violence.
