The League of Women Voters for Hull, named the LWV of Hingham, will host its annual forum for the candidates for local office in Hull. The League of Women Voters of Hingham is a non-partisan political organization that encourages citizens to take an informed and active role in government. The moderator, Mary B. O'Connor, is a LWV Cape Cod Area member trained for LWV Candidate Nights.

The format invites each candidate to make a two minute opening statement, beginning with candidates for offices which are uncontested. These two minutes provide candidates with the opportunity to introduce themselves, highlight their credentials, and explain why they are running for office. A strict time format is followed in order to end the evening in a timely manner. 

For the four contested races, after the opening statements the Moderator will pose questions submitted by voters for the candidates. All questions are first vetted by League members for clarity and appropriateness. Each candidate is allowed one minute to respond to each question; who answers first will be determined ahead of time by lottery, and this will alternate with each question. At the conclusion of the question-and-answer period, each candidate will then have one minute in which to make a closing statement. 

The League of Women Voters follows specific rules that govern our Candidates Nights. We will not sponsor an "empty chair debate"; in the event only one candidate for a contested office is present, they will not have the opportunity to answer questions. Substitutes are not allowed for a candidate. If a candidate cannot participate, they are invited to submit a two-minute written statement which the Moderator will read.
