The League of Women Voters supports and opposes issues based long-standing positions on public policy issues created through member participation and agreement.

The League of Women Voters takes action on an issue or advocates for a cause when there is an existing League public policy position that supports or opposes the issue or speaks to the cause.

Public Policy Positions result from a process of study, member participation and agreement. The processof developing public policy positions has three parts:

The selection of an issue,

The study, updating or restudy of that issue, consensus (member participation and agreement) and formulating a public policy position, and

The use of that position to influence public policy.

The outcome of this process is referred to as League Program. League Program consists of those public policy issues that the League has chosen for concerted study and action at the national, state and local level. “Program is the League’s reason for being.”
