LWVAZ Water Policy 2009

The LWVAZ Water Policy, last amended in 2009, endorses many important elements of water management in Arizona and provides a list of goals that the League hopes will be addressed by the Legislature to achieve water sustainability.  However, many of the provisions of the current policy are quite general, making them difficult to interpret when applied to specific legislative proposals.  The current policy statement does not address the diversity of water challenges that are being experienced by different parts of the state.  Neither does it take into account the disparity in management and regulation between rural and urban parts of Arizona, and it makes no mention of climate change or long-term drought as elements in shaping state policy.
