Take action on climate change! Tell Gov. Brown to sign SB 32 and AB 197

Time Range For Action Alert:
September 7, 2016 to September 9, 2016

Take action today and tell the Governor to sign SB 32 and AB 197. Climate change history is being made in California!

Thank Governor Brown for his leadership AND ask him to sign two important bills to protect our environment.

The month of August was exciting—but demanding—for advocates of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The League of Women Voters of California joined with a large and diverse coalition to press the Legislature to pass SB 32 and AB 197, and those efforts were rewarded when both bills were approved and sent to the Governor for his signature. Together, the two bills expand state GHG reduction policies into the future and add a focus on equity in carrying them out.

SB 32 will extend the landmark Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32) of 2006, by setting a target reduction of GHG pollution to 40 percent below 1990 levels by the year 2030.

Its companion bill, AB 197, requires more transparency and accountability of the California Air Resources Board. It calls for priority consideration of disadvantaged communities and those most affected by air pollution, and includes the social costs of carbon as a factor for evaluating the cost-effectiveness of GHG reduction measures.

Let’s make sure Governor Brown knows how important these measures are to League members and all his constituents around the state! Take action today and urge the Governor to sign SB 32 and AB 197.
