TAKE ACTION! We the People - Not Politicians - Draw District Lines

Time Range For Action Alert:
September 9, 2019 to September 11, 2019

Should maps for supervisorial districts be drawn:

     A) By incumbent politicians,
     B) Behind closed doors and with minimal public input, or
     C) Transparently by the PEOPLE?

C is the only logical answer. Take action now! That’s why the League is championing the People’s Maps Act, SB 139, and we need your help to get it passed out of the Assembly.

Act now and tell your Assemblymember to vote YES on the People's Maps Act. With your help, we can reaffirm our state’s commitment to fair, representative, and inclusive democracy in large counties.

BACKGROUND:

California has garnered national recognition for introducing independent, nonpartisan redistricting throughout the state, yet local gerrymandering persists. Incumbents use the local line-drawing process to disenfranchise growing ethnic and language minority communities and to reduce the voting power of political minorities. End this abuse by telling your Assemblymember to vote YES on The People's Maps Act, SB 139.

SB 139 requires large counties to create an independent redistricting commission that will have the power to draft and adopt district maps.
The bill requires that the commission members be politically independent.
For the first time, the bill also prohibits partisan gerrymandering in county redistricting.
As leaders of the movement that led to our state’s Citizens Redistricting Commission, we have spent years championing reforms that provide a clear national standard of excellence. The People’s Maps Act will build upon this standard by affirming the state’s commitment to fair, representative, and inclusive democracy in large counties. Take action now and tell your Assemblymember to vote YES on SB 139.
