The Easy Voter Guide is a nonpartisan publication that provides easy-to-access, community-reviewed information on voter registration, voting, and statewide elections. It is available in 5 languages and distributed by Leagues and community partners. This year we had four new volunteers writing content for the Easy Voter Guide. Madeline Chimento is one of them. Read more about Madeline and her experience with the League!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Madeline Chimento, and I’ve been a member of LWV San Diego since October 2023. I moved to San Diego in September 2023 from New Orleans (I grew up right outside of New Orleans and lived in New Orleans for many years).
Why were you interested in writing for the Easy Voter Guide?
I’ve been working to increase my civic and political engagement over the past several years. I’ve written postcards and letters, attended text banks and phone banks, gone canvassing, etc. I’m a lawyer so writing for the EVG seemed like a good way to get involved where I could rely on my skill set and help citizens make informed decisions when voting.
What were some of the parts you enjoyed about the process? What were some of the challenges?
As a new California resident, it was interesting to learn more about California’s ballot proposition process. The hardest part was figuring out where to find information and what kind of format to use but it should be much easier next time.
What other activities/issues are you interested in or involved in with your local League?
I’ve volunteered to help with voter registration. I’m limited to volunteering in the evenings and on weekends but, within those constraints, I’m interested in helping out in any way I can.
Volunteers like Madeline are the backbone of the EVG – putting this indispensable tool into the hands of voters.
