Butte County Board of Supervisors:  MAPS Special Meeting at 1:00 PM on Mon. Dec.6, to again consider selecting a new district map.  The state law deadline of December 15 for final approval of a map is fast approaching.

On December 1, the LWVBC Board sent a letter to the Board of Supervisors emphasizing the requirements of the Fair Maps Act when drawing district lines.  The text of that letter is here.

At the request of various supervisors, eight maps are on the December 6 meeting agenda

Three maps --  A8A9, and A10 – were prepared by Redistricting Consultants per a motion supported by Supervisors Connelly, Teeter, and Kimmelshue.  The motion directed the consultants to apply the following criteria:

two valley districts (a north and a south), a city split in Chico that includes the school district lines, a split in Oroville that utilizes the Feather River, that Forest Ranch and Cohasset stay together, Cohasset and Forest Ranch may or may not be in the same district as the Town of Paradise, North of the City of Oroville/Feather River shall be included in the Town of Paradise District, consider public comment that has been received (including not dividing up Mechoopda), Chico may be divided into 4 districts, Oroville may be divided into 3 districts, and the district that the Town of Paradise resides in may be underpopulated similar to what has been considered previously.

Three maps --  “A5” (76161), “A5-B” (88712), and “A5-C” (88735) -- were added to the agenda at the request of Supervisors Kimmelshue and Teeter.  Map A5 was drawn by the consultant and the other two submitted by the public.

Two maps -- “Chico N/S, Foothills E/W” (86812) and A7 (85712) -- were added at the request of Supervisors Lucero and Ritter.  Both maps were submitted by members of the public.

You can attend the Dec. 6 meeting in person at 25 County Center Drive or view it remotely here.  Click here for instructions on how to submit public comments virtually.
