The League of Women Voters of Butte County -- a voice for nonpartisan support of democracy and an informed citizenry. Established in 1966, our League focuses primarily on local and state issues, although we share the perspectives and policies of the national and state Leagues. Local politics matter, and it is where each of us can see how our votes make a difference to our communities.
Some of what our League has accomplished in the past year:
Election-Related Activities
Voter’s Edge information about candidates and ballot measures at your fingertips. Our members help create and support this valuable resource
Pro’s and Con’s on Ballot Measures Presentations online and in person;.
Thirteen LWVBC candidate forums in the 2022 election season (Primary: County Supervisors, County Assessor, 1st Congressional (all online); General: Chico City Council and School Board, Paradise Town Council and Park and Rec District (all in-person) and online forums for Oroville City Council and Mayor, Biggs School Board and City Council, and 3rd Assembly and 1st Congressional;
Voter Registration outreach to the Hispanic community and unhoused populations;
Staffed the Durham Voter Assistance Center for four days before the general election;
Assisted with ballot collection on Election Night for the primary and general election.
Educational Programs for the Community
Three online programs about Butte County Water Issues;
Three programs on Homelessness and Housing.
All our recorded programs are available on our YouTube Channel.
In the coming year, we will present more education programming and decide as a League what issues we wish to prioritize in coming months – continued work on water and climate change and homelessness, redistricting reform, criminal justice, and more …
Many of us feel that our involvement in the League is our way of fully participating in the democratic process – plus voting of course.
