The League of Women Voters of Butte County (LWVBC) and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) - Chico will collaborate this fall on an online educational series open to the public “The Basics of Civics: Citizenship, Voting, Census, Reapportionment, and Redistricting.“ The League of Women Voters of Butte County, a non-partisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government; former LWVBC president Debra Barger will lead the series, offered on Thursdays from 3pm to 4pm from September 16 through October 7.

 

Civics in America has a fascinating history of encouraging voices and silencing others. Together we will review highlights of citizenship, voter registration, and voting, discuss some of the changes over time, and address issues which continue to this day, including engaging in the very timely issue of Local Redistricting for Butte County.
