United Way of Northern California is pleased to partner with the Leagues of Women Votersof Redding and of Butte County to host the North State Redistricting Forum on May 18 at 2pm.

The Redistricting process happens once every ten years, and is currently underway based on 2020 federal census data. California must redraw the boundaries of its Congressional, State Senate, State Assembly, and State Board of Equalization districts so that the districts correctly reflect the state’s population. The Redistricting Commission, made up of five Republicans, five Democrats, and four not affiliated with either of those two parties, must draw the district lines in conformity with strict, nonpartisan rules designed to create districts of relatively equal population that will provide fair representation for all Californians.

Patricia Sinay, Commissioner from the California Citizens Redistricting Commission, will be on hand to present information and take written questions from the audience using the Zoom chat function. Join us for an educational event where North State community leaders and residents can learn more about this important process and what it means for our residents and all Californians.
