League Member Meeting
Saturday, February 11, from 11 to 1:30,
- at the First Baptist Church, 850 Palmetto Avenue, Chico,
- to share a potluck brunch and
- your passions, ideas, and energy for what our League can accomplish.
More than just another meeting, this will be a collaborative dialogue in which we listen, share, and swap seats to find new connections, while discussing why the League is important to us, what our League should work on, and how each one of us can be part of it.
Please feel free to invite a friend or two who may be interested in the League or who can offer advice on issues the League may work on.
Why do this?
In League lingo, this is “Program Planning”. It essentially means finding out what issues members care about most so that we can focus League resources – on the local, state, and national levels – on those issues (provided that League positions exist to support any advocacy). This process is built into LWVBC in Article X of our bylaws and is part of the governing structure of all Leagues.
After hearing from the membership, the LWVBC board will present a recommended Program, based on your input, at the Annual Meeting in the spring. Members will vote on whether to adopt that Program. Members may present alternate program issues as outlined in the bylaws.
What is our current Program?
At last June’s Annual Meeting, the Board recommended and the members adopted the following program: Housing/Homelessness, Climate Change/Water, Redistricting (the same Program as the previous year). Reflecting that program, we have produced several programs on the first two issues and some emails and newsletter articles on redistricting issues.
