 Changes to January minutes.

Other board and committee Sandra said 49 members have not paid despite 3 emails sent, notice in the newsletter, and calls to everyone who hadn’t paid. Sandra will send updated lists of updates to the board.

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m.

February Board Minutes: Marcia suggested some changes to section on contact of members re: dues.  Carol will make those changes.

Our Intern Introduced: Sierra Josfan is a communications major with a women’s studies minor and is looking for insight. Marcia referred Sierra to Carol Burr who started the Women’s Studies program at CSUC.

Review of Speed Dating:

Claire reported that, while everyone was engaged and there was no “dead air”, there was difficulty getting candidates to rotate. It was Super Bowl Sunday so we expected fewer people to attend. The primary approached so fast in March that we had few dates to choose from. Janet wished for a paper with candidates’ names to remember afterwards. Marcia suggested handing out tablets with the LWV icon. Janet asked that we set dates for a similar speed dating event, early, before the November election. Claire thought we could get the state senate and assembly members. Marcia said we could set up the event but could cancel if not enough candidates were willing to appear.

Loose ends for Feb. 17 member meeting:

Sierra has made a slide show. Satsie: round tables with tablecloths and chairs should already be set up. Toni and Carol will not be there; Janet may leave early.

Voter registration: February 22 at CHAT. No food or drink allowed there. Sierra may miss it too.

Toni said Corky set up a quite nice table at the Oroville library, checking if people needed to update.

Sierra registered 20 people on campus. Next time she will distribute many fliers all around campus, especially in relevant buildings. She asks for their contact numbers so she can send the information. Sierra will talk to some fraternities and sororities and perhaps hold an event. Janet asked her to write an article about this for our newsletter.  Corky: It is important for students to have same address in fall or they will need to change. Sierra said to use their home address.

Update on VAC scheduling/ballot pickup

Satsie: The schedule is mostly done but we need one more volunteer for Election Day, 1:30 to 9 p.m. Satsie will work entire day; other people will cover particular times with one more to work the afternoon.

Board and Committee Updates:  Corky hopes to work on the 17th at the African American Cultural Center, though she is not prepared to do VR in the rain.

Marcia says Sandra has sent our member numbers to National. But we should keep telling people to register or join; it’s not too late.

Toni says the Natural Resource Committee is planning an event on weather forecasting changes for late June. They will try an in-person meeting (in Chico) or with a state representative on Zoom. Possibly at the Baptist Church again.

Annual Meeting Date & Venue

The board discussed possible dates for Annual Meeting in late May and settled on Baptist Church as best venue.  Satsie will contact the church and let the board know when the date is selected.  It was suggested that Mahalley might be willing to be Parliamentarian.

Conflict of Interest Policy:  Still need signed statements from Janet, Toni, and Caroline.

Other Items: there is a request for a speaker to talk about the LWV at Butte College in Chico on February 28. Margaret Swick will speak and Janet may go along. Toni would like to go too if possible (family situation).

Satsie received an email from the Butte County Librarian. Oroville AAUW wants to show the film Iron Jawed Angels at the library, and someone remembered an arrangement with distributor from years ago which allowed LWV to show the film without charge.  The board discussed how to find this out.

Adjourned at 6:33p.m.
