Board Meeting Minutes

June 13, 2023

5:30 p.m. on Zoom

Board Members Present:  Satsie Veith, Janet Rechtman, Sandra Flake, Toni Reid, Claire Greene, Caroline Langen, Marcia Moore

Guest: Carol Holzgrafe

  1.  Call to Order:    The meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m.
  2.  Approve Meeting Minutes:    The minutes of the May 9 meeting were approved with no changes.
  3. County Contract:  President Veith discussed the county contract, which is renewed annually, and which had been sent to board members with the agenda of this meeting.  There is a minor change consisting of not enumerating the number of schools with whom the League will coordinate voter education materials.   The contract was approved unanimously.
  4. Voter (newsletter) heading new format.  Heading changes had been discussed previously; the new change with the heading in red was noted.  Comments were made about the excellence of the material in the current newsletter.
  5. Nominating Committee Appointments.  President Veith reminded board members that our bylaws require appointment of two board members to the nominating committee to serve the entire year with the non-board members on the committee.  She encouraged those present to consider volunteering.
  6. Planning for Fall Coffee:  Date, Venue, Speaker.  Janet Rechtman is pursuing using Bradley 2 (formerly Craig Hall – CSUC dorm meeting room) for the Fall Coffee.  She has had preliminary contact with OLLI which uses the room during the week.  There is no kitchen but plenty of parking, room for our typical attendance, and availability for coffee and cookies.  Another possibility mentioned was the CARD building near Bidwell JR. High where we have met in the past.  Late September or possibly October were mentioned as possible dates for the meeting.  Cathy Darling Allen, County Clerk/Registrar of Voters  for Shasta County and a League member was recommended by people who heard her speak at the Convention.  Co-Presidents Veith and Rechtman will work on contacting her and that may be helpful in setting the date.  Another possible speaker mentioned is a CSUChico professor in the school of social work who is doing research on homelessness.
  7. Planning Meeting/Retreat: Date, etc.  We discussed a board planning meeting/retreat. Preference is for an in-person meeting with the Board alone at the office or with a selected additional invited few to do initial planning for the year and then to hold another meeting or series of meetings again with selected invitees but also open to the entire membership.  Janet Rechtman will send out a Doodle calendar to determine the best possible date which may be sometime in August.
  8. Adjourn.  The meeting was adjourned at 6:11 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Marcia Moore
