CELEBRATE EARTH DAY
Earth Day is celebrated around the world annually on April 22nd. It was born out of a massive oil spill right here in Santa Barbara and was the largest oil spill in United States' waters at that time. Within a 10-day period, an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 barrels of oil spilled into the Santa Barbara Channel and onto beaches from Goleta to Ventura, killing an estimated 3,500 sea birds, dolphins, elephant seals, and sea lions.
Growing out of that first Earth Day, EARTHDAY.ORG is the world’s largest recruiter to the environmental movement, working with more than 150,000 partners in nearly 192 countries to build environmental democracy. This year's theme is "Invest in Our Planet." For more information, visit Earthday.org here.
