What is “She Is Me”? She Is Me is an online campaign to celebrate 100 years of League work through the intergenerational stories of real LWV members. The goal of She Is Me is to generate awareness of the League among new audiences, focusing on cultivating the next generation of LWV supporters. Local Leagues are welcome to take part.

Why is it called “She Is Me”? As we celebrate our hundredth anniversary and the inclusion of women in the voting franchise, we want to tell the diverse stories of all our members—from “legacy” to “next generation” members and everyone in between.

“She Is Me” proudly asserts LWV as a women-led organization that believes in the power of women to create a more perfect democracy. It links our current intergenerational member stories to those of the women who built and powered our organization. The phrase is designed to resonate with potential new supporters, who can read the stories of our female members and say, “Wow, she is me!” And while the campaign acknowledges the League’s female empowerment, it is equally powerful in displaying allies of other genders who boldly say “She Is Me!”

When will She Is Me happen? She Is Me officially launched on August 15, 2019, near the ninety-ninth anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment. The campaign is ongoing, running through the 2020 presidential election in November.

Who is featured in She Is Me? National She Is Me features stories of real League members of different backgrounds, generations, locations, and genders. The campaign launched with six powerful, inspirational women members and is featuring more members of other genders as it progresses.

Local Leagues are participating by posting the stories of their own amazing local and state members—like you! LWV-PA members who already have participated include Margan and Thad Zajdowicz, Jacqui Pinn, Theresa Amador, Gayle Oswald, Marna Cornell, Carina Jacob, Marilynne and Roger Wilander, Alma Stokes, and Pat Coulter.

Contact Carol Caley at carolcaley [at] gmail.com if you would like to support our League by participating in She Is Me. Carol will create a post with your special message to publish on our Twitter and Facebook accounts. We will publish only your first name, your picture, and why you are passionate about LWV! You'll be able to see and approve your post before it's published.
