League members and their friends will gather at Mijares Mexican Restaurant on February 4, 2023, to celebrate Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s appointment, Black History Month, and the birthday of the League of Women Voters.
Our keynote speaker is J. Mira Hashmall, who has a long history with the League of Women Voters Los Angeles. She is an effective advocate for the empowerment of women and minorities and has been recognized by the Daily News as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in California.
In addition to our speaker, we will be entertained by a jazz ensemble from one of our local schools. We will have a display of wonderful photos and posters that feature events in the history of Black Americans as well as the history of the League.
In the spirit of multiculturalism, Mijares is hosting our meal with appetizers, a tasty fajita bar, and regular drinks, as well as a no-host bar for alcoholic beverages. Mijares will graciously host us in their banquet room, which accommodates up to 120 people, at no charge because we are a nonprofit group.
The basic ticket price, which will cover our costs, is $50. It is our goal to make the cost of tickets reasonable, to enable everyone who wishes to join us to be there. So for those who would not otherwise consider attending, we are also offering tickets at $25. Tickets go on sale December 15.
When tickets go on sale, we will send an email blast. Be sure to save the date now . . . and invite a friend or two!
