Celebration

In December, LWV-PA members and guests gathered at Maxwell House for the first in-person celebration since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. All were vaccinated and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reconnect. The spread of the omicron variant since December has again forced the League to proceed with caution and conduct mainly virtual events to keep our members safe. Our First Chance to Connect in Person in More than Two Years!

Approximately sixty League members and guests, who followed strict COVID-19 protocols, attended this festive event on December 2, 2021, at the Justice Center’s Maxwell House. The venue, which was beautifully decorated with poinsettias, ribbons, and candles, allowed for mingling both inside and on the outside patio. The Cutting Edge Catering staff passed out delicious hot appetizers and made a self-serve charcuterie platter available as a buffet in the dining room. Wine and cold drinks were available for all. A live jazz combo played background music for our members and guests as they ate and mingled.

At 7:00 p.m. the members and guests were asked to gather in the living room, where Dorothy Keane, an LWV-PA past president, welcomed all in the absence of our League president, Martha Zavala, who was ill. Dorothy gave a short overview of the work of our League. She acknowledged our LWV-PA Board members, who sponsored the party, and invited them to share the work of the committees on which they serve. Dignitaries and special guests were recognized, as well as all other LWV-PA members who were present. State Senator Anthony Portantino shared a few words with our League members and guests.

One of the highlights of the evening was the recognition of many newer League members who attended. All expressed gratitude for an evening of friendship, good food, and an opportunity to meet and chat with fellow League members and friends.

The planning committee of Mildred Dockery, Martha Zavala, and Dorothy Keane were delighted that the Winter Wonderland celebration was such a success.
