The Board of Directors met via Zoom in May 2021. Here is a summary:

  • Some concerns were expressed over the lack of clear information surrounding the recall vote for our governor. It was agreed that an article for the Voter was needed, as well as ongoing updates as information becomes available. Read about the recall here.
  • Plans and the format for our Annual Meeting are being developed. Katherine Gavzy announced that we will have a new enticement for members to attend: Door prizes will be randomly awarded during the meeting, to attendees only!
  • The Annual Meeting Kit will be sent via email a few days before the meeting.
  • President Martha Zavala reminded everyone that encouraging civic engagement and voting is a prime purpose of the League, but that we also must be involved in education and advocacy in areas that affect our members.
  • There was a reminder that each committee must have a DEI advocate. Thanks are extended to the Healthcare Committee for choosing one and reporting back to Martha!
  • The final call has been sent for the LWV State Convention. All members are reminded that there are many links to workshops and information on the LWVC website.
  • Committees may again use the Conference Room for meetings. All attendees should be vaccinated and follow CDC guidelines. The Conference Room is being cleaned, and committees are asked to check what they have stored there!
  • Anita Mackey noted that the State Legislature is fairly quiet right now, but there is usually a flurry of activity in August, so our members should expect notices of action to take at the end of the summer.
