AB 392 Update

California lawmakers passed landmark legislation, AB 392 (Shirley Weber, D–San Diego), on July 8, establishing a new standard that will let police use deadly force only “when necessary in defense of human life.” The bill now goes to the Governor, who has said he will sign. The LWVC, ACLU CA, the State Office of the NAACP, families of victims of policing shootings, and allied community groups and organizations supported passage of the bill in an uphill battle with police unions and organizations. The police groups recently compromised and went neutral on the bill. For more information, visit https://calmatters.org/justice/2019/07/new-ca-rules-deadly-police-force-....
