Democracy Is Not a  Spectator Sport: The Importance of League Membership

As the League of Women Voters Pasadena Area enters a “new cycle,” we need to remember why we chose to be members of the League and what our membership dues provide—not only to our local League but also to the League of Women Voters at the state and national levels.

Just think about all the events and changes that will be occurring during the next year: the 2020 Census, primary elections, new voting changes, the presidential election, and a host of issues relating to immigration, housing, voter rights, climate change, healthcare, and much more. Whew! It may seem overwhelming, but as a sound and united front, the League of Women Voters continuously takes on a leadership role to educate the public on all of these topics as well as fight for voter rights that allow everyone to participate in making our country strong, secure, and open to all.

Your membership in the League means you understand that democracy is not a spectator sport. It means that you are dedicated to the goals of the League of Women Voters on the local, state, and national levels. That's what makes the Pasadena League the “best League”—our dedicated members.

This next year will also mark the Centennial Year for the League of Women Voters, which means that, more than ever, we want to move into the fall with a strong Pasadena League membership. If you have a friend who has expressed interest in the League, now is the time to bring her or him to an event or League Day meeting.

Again, now is the time to renew your membership. If you have not renewed, it's not too late; dues can be paid by check or through our website (see the membership form on the back cover of this Voter).  If you have already renewed, thank you! Your membership keeps our wheels turning so we can continue to move forward to make democracy work for all!
