Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Spotlight
In my first thirty days as your president, I have appointed an LWV-PA DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) Taskforce. Its first members are Dorothy Keane, Debbie Fagen, and one of our newest League members, Jacqueline Pinn. In fact, Jacqui will be leading the efforts of the taskforce in its initial stages.
You all know Dorothy, our immediate past president, and you know her passion for making our League look more like the communities we serve. She has been a strong supporter of the transformation journey from its beginning. Debbie is on the LWV-PA Board, and she also chairs our Advocacy Committee. She was most recently elected to the LWVC Board on one of the most diverse slates LWVC has ever had. Jacqui is new to our League, but she is bringing a wealth of personal and professional experience in the DEI space. She is also a licensed marriage and family therapist here in our area.
The purpose of the DEI Taskforce is to lead our League on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion transformation journey, to incorporate the commitment of LWVUS and LWVC into our local League mission, and to connect with members for outreach to our thirteen cities to embrace the diversity of these communities.
The three inaugural members of the DEI Taskforce graciously and enthusiastically agreed to participate, and as we grow in this arena, my hope is that others will join the taskforce as well.
At our upcoming October 3 League Day, the DEI Taskforce will present a program featuring our LWVUS CEO, Virginia Kase. She is a dynamic and compelling speaker with a unique story, and she is the first Latina woman to lead LWVUS.
Help me congratulate and thank Dorothy, Debbie, and Jacqui for taking on the leadership of LWV-PA’s DEI transformation journey.
