Saving the Environment by Going Green
We are all committed to doing what we can to save the environment. Our League is moving forward in implementing ways we can do our part. This will mean that the way we communicate may change and we may have to adapt to the challenge.
So what will change? We are working to change how this newsletter will be made available to you. We will move toward having an e-Voter—that is, an “electronic” Voter—that will be available on our website and through your email. We now send a “printed” copy of the Voter to many via email, but it is a PDF file used to create a professionally printed newsletter. The upside is that you can print it out; the downside is that we are not taking advantage of all the wonderful links to event sign-ups and other digital features of the website, which help make life easier as well as greener. So our current approach is both costly and not environmentally friendly. We will be testing some e-Voter models to find one that is not only environmentally friendly but also easy to access. We will not ignore the needs of our members who do not have access to the internet or email. All our members are important and we want to make sure that all needs are addressed.
We will have the 2019–2020 Members Yearbook available on our website by the end of September. This will include the information in the yearbook minus the directory. We are looking at ways to share member contact information that addresses member privacy and security.
If you have comments or suggestions on these efforts to address environmental needs, contact President Pat Coulter at president [at] lwv-pa.org and me at communications [at] lwv-pa.org.
