What a Success!
Board Director Jean Buennagel and Jonathan Horton of Congresswoman Chu’s office have a teacher-student reunion at ICS.
On the warm Sunday afternoon of July 14, 2019, LWV-PA held its annual Friend Raiser–Fundraiser Ice Cream Social. Our afternoon at the Western Justice Center’s Maxwell House was buzzing with activity—serving up scoops of delicious Fosselman’s ice cream with never-ending fruit and other sweet toppings; serving iced tea, limeade, and water to help everyone stay hydrated; holding a silent auction with over fifty fabulous items; selling 50–50 opportunity drawing tickets, which resulted in the winner taking home a $200 cash prize; hosting a Citizen Quiz for anyone who wanted to participate; and listening to the background music of the jazz duo Bricks Fix.
More than one hundred League members, their families, and friends attended this event, as well as over thirty elected officials. We hosted representatives from the U.S. Congress, State of California Senate and Assembly, San Gabriel Valley mayors, city councils, town councils, and school and PCC boards. Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27) spoke briefly to give our attendees a firsthand update on the crisis at our southern border.
The Ice Cream Social Committee chair and co-chairs would like to say “thank you” many times over to all of our committee members, volunteers, and Maxwell House staff. Your hours of planning and preparation for this event resulted in the League’s raising almost $9,000 to support LWV-PA community activities for advocacy and voter services.
