Women's History Month

At a Women’s History Month event, called HERstory, organized by the Pasadena Commission on the Status of Women on March 15, two women who also happen to be League members were honored: Roberta Martinez and Dolores Hickambottom. They were welcomed and introduced by another League member, Pasadena Councilmember Margaret McAustin.

Many members of the Commission are also League members including the Chair, Lorena Hernandez, the event Chair, Marna Cornell, Anne Wolf, and Jessica Rivas. The League was one of the many sponsors. In McAustin’s welcome, she included statistics on women now running for office and how
the political world is changing with women’s increasing participation. Both honorees have amazing and touching stories. It gives us hope that positive change is possible when there is a willingness to stand up for your beliefs and continue to do so over time. Their lives are remarkable as is the history they have lived through and influenced in our communities. Improving our world takes courage, as does the ability to grow and learn, and a determination to keep on keeping on even in the face of opposition. A good lesson for our times.
