May Member Meeting

The California Violence Intervention and Prevention Program (CalVIP)
May 2, 5:30 pm, via Zoom

The League of Women Voters of Placer Countys Thursday, May 2nd general meeting will focus on the California Violence Intervention and Prevention program (CalVIP), which provides funding grants for cities and community-based organizations with the goal of reducing local violence.

As specified in the Break the Cycle of Violence Act of 2019, CalVIP grants may be used in variety of ways, including evidence-based street outreach, hospital-based interventions, and focused deterrence strategies.  For instance, unfortunate outcomes make the headlines all too often from police interventions with a citizen experiencing a mental health crisis.

Officer Jonathan Brown, Grass Valley Police Department, Kelly Gallaugher, LCSW, therapist at Western Sierra Medical Clinic, and Joe Naake, Director of Strategic Programming, Hospitality House, will describe their experiences with the CalVIP program in Grass Valley.

The meeting is open to the public and will be presented via Zoom at 05:30 PM Pacific Time (US and Canada).
