City Government

General: Support of council‑manager government in Highland Park. Support of at-­large election of council people. Support of home rule. Support of practices and procedures which promote maximum citizen participation.

Boards, Advisory Boards and Commissions: Support of the board, advisory board and commission structure in Highland Park. Support for a strong and effective Human Relations Advisory Board and a strong fair housing ordinance. Support of the Business and Economic Development Advisory Board.  Although the League supports the Advisory Board structure, the preceding are singled out because they were studied individually by League members.  See long form of the position.

Budgeting Procedures: Support of the present budget procedures and the use of a budget summary, a salary schedule and an explanation of expenditures for special projects. Support of citizen participation in the budgeting process.

Campaign Practices and Procedures:  Support and encourage voluntary candidates’ guidelines and community-based efforts to reduce the financial burden of running for elective office in Highland Park.

Community Resources: The LWV of Highland Park recognizes that the social service facilities and resources of Highland Park are many and varied.  Support of moderate city funding of private social service agencies in Highland Park by purchase of services, if necessary. 

Facilities: Support for the use of the Highland Park Community House to be funded primarily with private funds and limited public monies.
