Registering voters is historically one of the primary responsibilities of the League of Women Voters. The Jackson County League maintains a roster of approximately 15–20 League members as deputy registrars who are trained on an annual basis by the Jackson County Clerk’s office. Organizing candidate forums is also another primary responsibility of the League of  Women Voters. Public venues were typically utilized until the pandemic, when the League began a wonderful partnership with Carbondale Public Library. Viewing a candidate forum via Zoom quickly became a popular and accessible means of being informed about upcoming elections. The added benefit of the forums being recorded and made available afterwards greatly increased viewership. At the present time, the League plans to continue working with the library to bring forums to a wide southern Illinois audience.
