Happy New Year! We hope that you have had a good holiday season and time with those you love.

A quick review of our remarkable 2018:

  • We worked with the Voter Education Coalition and the ACLU on forums and held a potluck candidate forum in October which drew 18 candidates and 100 participants.
  • We registered new voters at events in our community including: Naturalization ceremonies, high schools all over Douglas County, the Farmer’s Market, nursing homes, sidewalk sales, the Lawrence Public Library, public events in city parks, Haskell, KU, and at almost any spot that welcomed us. It was exciting as so many members of our community reached out to us for help and collaboration, particularly at KU.
  • We provided countless citizens information about where and when to vote, including updating registrations. We registered approximately 1,100 new voters! Voter turnout statewide was at a historic high for a midterm election and we definitely helped with that!

Everyone ready to jump into 2019 with both feet? Ready or not, here we go!

Please join us for our annual Afternoon with the Legislators on Jan 27, 2019 from 1-3pm at First Presbyterian Church. They will present their priorities for the upcoming legislative session and you will have opportunity to ask questions and give input.

Our priorities for 2019 will be to continue voter education and registration and advocate for changes to our state election system in legislative redistricting and same day registration.

We are also reviewing policies! If that is your thing, please reach out- we can use your help! If you have ever wanted to get involved, 2019 will have plenty of opportunities for you! Please let us know your thoughts and ideas. We want to hear from you!

Please join us for Drinks & Democracy on Tuesday, January 22, 5-7pm at Johnny’s Tavern North for an informal get together. See you then!
