Voter Services

Voter Services

Organizes the League's many voter registration and education events.

These include tabling at high schools, U.S. Naturalization Citizen ceremonies, and such local public events as the Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Occasionally Voters Services volunteers are invited to special events such the NAACP's celebration of Juneteenth and neighborhood gatherings.

Last year volunteers participated in the statewide LWVK initiative ”March to the Polls,“ which commemorated the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment by targeting voter registration and turnout efforts in under-represented precincts.

Voter Services also works with local high schools to provide voter registration and education and  activities including contests and volunteer opportunities.

New volunteers are welcome!

Leagues are stuck in the simple and sometimes effective mode of tabling at schools and entering classrooms to register students to vote. We have not done enough to emphasize the "engage" portion of our mission. Too often we think that these old methods are enough when they are not.Four Leagues from around the Bay gather via Zoom to discuss how their outreach to youth voters has changed and how they encourage them to register or pre-register to vote and become engaged in the process.

The Leagues of Palo Alto; Oakland and Fremont, Newark, Union City present a variety of methods deployed to engage high school students in our democratic process.

The Congressional District 6 Forums are completed.  Recordings are available on the League of Women Voters of Glen Ellyn website -   https://www.lwvge.org.  Below are the links to the recordings on Youtube:

Learn about Ranked Choice Voting and the citizen led movement to bring this must-have election reform to our state. Jonathan Perloe of Voter Choice CT will lead an educational forum that will begin with an overview of our current “plurality voting” system, then explain how Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) works and why it gives voters a better way to express their preferences and produces more representative election outcomes.
