July 2018 Voter Services Report

News

The Voter Services Committee held 12 voter registration events from June 30th through July 19th. The largest event was the Naturalization Ceremony at the Lied Center. We registered 204 new citizens to vote out of the 327 people who were naturalized during this ceremony. Lois
Orth-Lopes lead a team of volunteers who distributed Voter Registration Applications throughout the Lied Center Auditorium prior to the 10am event. After the ceremony, the new citizens returned their forms to the waiting volunteers who checked the forms for completeness. Due to the court ruling in June, we did not have to photocopy the naturalization documents, saving time for both the newcitizens and volunteers. The next Naturalization ceremony is scheduled for October 25, 2018 at the Lied Center.

Additional events included three at the Lawrence Farmer’s Market, four at the Lawrence Public Library, and two at Raintree Montessori School. We also tabled all day at the Downtown Sidewalk Sale and had a first ever event for students at Van Go.

I want to thank all who volunteered your time to make these events successful and represent to the pubic the goals of voter registration and education of the League of Women Voters’ of Lawrence & Douglas County.

To join our Voter Services team, please email Melissa A. Wick at wickma @ aol.com with your name, email, and phone number. When we schedule registration events, an email will be sent to all of those interested in voter registration and voter education asking you to sign up if possible.
