Sandhya Ravikumar, a graduate of Free State High School, is the recipient of the 2018 League of Women Voters of Lawrence/Douglas County Spring 2018 Mabel Stuckey Scholarship.
Sandhya is a National Merit Scholar and College Board scholar who was one of two Kansas students selected for the United States Senate Youth Program. She was also an organizer and speaker at the Lawrence Women’s March this winter. Sandhya is interested in Debate and Forensics, Orchestra (violin), and volunteered with KU biochemistry and the Free State Prairie Project.
In her statement, Sandhya talked about the importance of diversity in scientific careers and howshe has observed that inequality creates inaccessibility. She has worked to create interest in science across demographics and how empowered students in turn empower others. She is interested in studying political science and physics in college. Sandhya was presented with a certificate and letter from our local LWV chapter at the Free State awards ceremony in early May.
